What a weekend

It happens every year, the weather is great, people are really getting an early start in gardening, then WHAM, Mother Nature lets us know who is in charge. The question of the week is.... "Will my plants be OK?" Yes, they are going to be just fine, unless you have planted tomato and pepper plants, and did not protect them. Pansies actually will do better with the snow (ice) they received. The snow cover actually made a nice blanket to insulate against the cold temperatures. Spring flowering bulbs such as tulips and daffodils that were in full bloom won't bloom again, but the bulbs will be fine. This afternoon I did see some tulips that had not bloomed and I think they will be just fine, and like the pansies, the snow cover was good for them. Spring flowering plants such as viburnum and crabapple trees that the buds had not opened seem to be ok, time will tell. It is going to be a great week for gardening, no storms in the forcast!
